ABSTRACT
A Power quality problemis an occurrence manifestedas a nonstandard voltage, current or frequency that results
ina failure or a mis-operation ofend user equipments. Utilitydistribution networks, sensitive industrial loads and critical
commercialoperations suffer fromvarious types of outages and service interruptionswhich can costsignificantfinancial
losses. Withthe restructuringof power systems and with shifting trend towards distributed and dispersed generation, the
issue ofpower quality is goingto takenewer dimensions. In developing countries like India, where the variationof power
frequency and manysuch other determinants of power quality are themselves a seriousquestion, it is very vital totake
positive steps inthis direction .Thepresent work is toidentify the prominent concernsin this area and hence the measures
that can enhance the quality ofthe power are recommended.
This work describes the techniques ofcorrectingthe supply voltagesag,swell andinterruption in a distributed
system. At present, a wide range of veryflexible controllers, which capitalize on newly available power electronics
components, are emerging for custompower applications. Among these, the distribution staticcompensator and the
dynamic voltage restorerare mosteffective devices, both of thembased on the VSC principle. A DVR injects a voltage in
series with the systemvoltage anda D-STATCOMinjectsacurrentintothe systemtocorrectthe voltage sag, swell and
interruption. Comprehensive results are presented to assessthe performance of each device as a potential custompower
solution.

Abstract: The STATCOM (Synchronous Static Compensator) based on voltage source converter (VSC) is used
for voltage regulation in transmission and distribution system. The STATCOM can rapidly supply dynamic
VARs required during system faults for voltage support. Strict requirements of STATCOM losses and total
system loss penalty preclude the use of PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) for VSC based STATCOM applications.
This constraint of implementing VSC without PWM functionality, results in over-currents and trips of the
STATCOM during and after system faults, when its VAR support functionality is most required. In this paper, we
propose and develop an “emergency PWM” strategy to prevent over-currents (and trips) in the VSC during and
after single line to ground system faults, LLLG faults and to ensure that the STATCOM supplies required
reactive power. The Simulation results are shown for a 48-pulse VSC based ± 100 MVAR STATCOM connected
to a 2- bus power strategy to prevent VSC over-currents and to supply required reactive power under line to
ground system faults.

Abstract:Voltage flicker is a major power quality concern for both power companies and customers.
This paper discusses the dynamic performance of a (D-STATCOM) with ESS for mitigation of voltage
flicker. The (D-STATCOM) is intended to replace the widely used static var compensator (SVC). A
Distribution Static Synchronous Compensator (D-STATCOM) is used to regulate voltage on a 25-kV
distribution network. The (D-STATCOM) protects the utility transmission or distribution system from
voltage sag and /or flicker caused by rapidly varying reactive current demand. The (D-STATCOM)
regulates bus voltage by absorbing or generating reactive power. This voltage is provided by a voltage
sourced PWM inverter. The simulation is carried out using MATLAB/SIMULINK and the simulation
results illustrate the performance of (D-STATCOM) in mitigation of voltage flicker.

Abstract- D-STATCOM (Distribution Static Compensator) is a
play vary vital role in a Distribution system. D-STATCOM
used for reactive power compensation and load balancing and
it’s including power factor (PF) correction, voltage regulation,
and harmonic filtering in distribution network. Thispaper pre
sent the analysis of reactive power compensate, D-STATCOM
is based on power electronic equipment at the reliable opera
tion and power quality improving with power flowsin large
voltage distribution system using D-STATCOM. An electronics
-based PWM inverter control operation has been developed the
voltage and current measurements and reactive power meas
urements are required. The operation of the reactive power
control is presented for D-STATCOM.
